Ashland University’s Bread Club had its first meeting of the year on Wednesday, Sept. 10 at 6:30 p.m. in the USA House. At the meeting, attendees were given recipes and ingredients to bake monkey bread to eat later.
Monkey bread is made of pieces of biscuit dough that are rolled in melted butter and cinnamon sugar. Several pieces are put together in lined muffin trays and baked. After they are baked, the monkey bread is drizzled in glaze.
Attendees of the meeting were required to RSVP before attending it, and it had a good turnout. Groups of about six students were grouped together to make each batch of monkey bread and there were about five batches in the oven.
The club, which was founded towards the end of the fall 2023 semester, has the goal of providing a positive, relaxing experience for students who attend.
“We wanted to provide students a good, relaxing time. We just thought it was a good idea,” said Catherine Davis, president of Bread Club and one of its founding members.
Although monkey bread was made at this meeting, a different baked food is made each time Bread Club meets, giving students the opportunity to make different baked goods at each meeting they attend.
