Ashland’s 2024-2025 Student Senate executive board represents a wide range of campus necessities. The board members are looking forward to using their leadership areas to advocate for students and positively impact campus.
“I’m most excited to see the new Student Senate fully elected. The last few years have seen a lot of change on campus, and I want to see the university serve the students through their perspective. I want them to see that their representation matters.” said Sophie Major, the Finance and Facilities chair. Her role on the board is to “represent concerns about finances and be a voice for students on the finance committee.”
In addition to Major, other members of the executive board are looking forward to serving the Ashland community during the new school year. “I’m very excited about this year, particularly for the new Student Senate members and new executive board, because I know most of them and it’s a privilege to serve with them,” said Maksym Polianski, officer of Student Affairs.
The other members of the executive board are President Aidan Nayak, Vice President Kara Crum, officer of Academic Affairs Teresa Overholser, officer of Activities, Budget/Chartering Committee (ABCC) Sanjna Arita, officer of Judicial Affairs Emilee Fletcher, officer of Residence Life Ty Bowden, Secretary Olivia Ortiz and PR chair Dana Krukovska.
While many of the executive positions have already been filled, there are multiple that are still available, such as representatives for each of the campus dorm halls and representatives for certain colleges. An election for prospective leaders will be held Sept.16 – 17.
In addition to this, the first public meeting of Student Senate occurred on Tuesday, Sept. 3 at 9:30 p.m. in the Student Center ABCD Conference Room. The executive board covered many topics related to the campus, the most important of which being a discussion about getting the air conditioning in Clayton Hall fixed soon. Another point brought up was that the inauguration of Ashland University’s new president, John Parrish Peede, will occur on Saturday, Oct. 25.
Already, Student Senate’s executive members are using their positions to advocate for positive change on campus and bring information about upcoming events to students and are excited to make an impact with their positions in the upcoming school year. However, many leaders are still needed for Student Senate to help the organization succeed as this school year begins.
