The Ashland University Men’s Soccer team opens the season at home against Davis and Elkins with a loss.
The number three men’s soccer team opened their season with an unfortunate loss against the Davis and Elkins Senators.
To begin the contest, both teams went back and forth on the field for almost half of the game; however, unfortunately for the Eagles, the Senators scored during the 23rd minute allowing for a 0-1 score.
Senators Forward Johan Magaña scored on a back-tap assist from Senators Forward Yavi Ortiz.
As the game progressed, the Senators scored yet another goal; but this was the result of an Eagles’ own goal which allowed for a 0-2 score – Eagles still down.
The Eagles and Senators then entered the second half, where the Senators made yet another goal during the 73rd minute.
The final goal was another Ashland own goal during the 77th minute providing the final margin of victory for Davis & Elkins – resulting in a 0-4 game.
Despite this loss, the Eagles had impressive individual performances such as from Goalkeeper Ty Bowden with four saves, Forward Rodri Fernandez with three shots and the Eagles going 8-4 in corner kicks with the Senators.
“We have to regroup, reorganize, and get back to it,” Head Men’s Soccer Coach Nick Roberts said. “Big games ahead, we need to be much better.”
Fans will next see the Eagles travel to Pennsylvania on Sunday, Sept. 8 to compete against Millersville – kickoff set to start at 1:00 p.m.
