Monday September 9th is the season opener for the Ashland University’s Womens Golf team– they will play at the University of Charleston Invitational.
The Eagles returned a lot of their starters who played for the team in the Division II Nationals. Such as: juniors Grace Grant and Emma Conway, sophomore Klaira Paramore, and their two standout first-year students, LeeAnn Harker and Riley McKenzie.
Paramore said the team as a whole has several long-term goals they plan to achieve by spring.
“[W]e must focus this fall on continuing to improve our NCAA ranking. To do this we need to win or finish in the top 3 teams at tournaments with teams from our region,” Paramore said.
As a team, they are looking to dominate at every invitational the Eagles attend this season. As a personal goal, Paramore is looking to lower her stroke average and get her second individual win.
Paramore described her summer as “trying to get a club in my hand every day, even if it was just for an hour.” She wanted to focus on the quality of the practice rather than the quantity.
Paramore is excited to see what the team can do as a whole, but she is excited to see where her training can take her competition. She said, “I am optimistic about the season because I know I haven’t peaked as a player yet.
In the upcoming invitational, the Eagles are looking to finish in the top 3 teams and start the fall season off strong.
For some of the people who don’t know, according to Paramore,” an invitational is a tournament organized by a school where teams can participate only if they receive an invitation from the host team.”
The Eagles opening invitational starts on Monday, Sept. 9-10.
