Ashland University Swimming and Diving announces former Ashland Eagle, Sydney Laughlin, as the program’s new assistant coach.
Assistant Coach Lauglin is a former Ashland Eagle swim and dive competitor after having spent two seasons at Ashland University and having coaching experience at other colleges. Being a former eagle, Assistant Coach Laughlin finds these aids in helping the program.
“I understand it sounds weird and there may have been concerns about how I swam with the juniors and seniors on the team in the past as their teammate, but I truly am not worried about that,” Assistant Coach Laughlin said. “I believe having been their teammate in the past and already knowing their events and training style will be helpful.”
This announcement came not too long after former interim Hueston Holder became the Head Coach for the program.
“Becoming Coach Holder’s assistant coach is an honor,” Assistant Coach Laughlin said. “Following the team this past year through their social media posts and hearing about all that coach Holder has done for this team is encouraging.”
Head Coach Holder shares the same sentiment for Assistant Coach Laughlin, finding she’ll contribute to the team positively.
“I feel like she’s the missing puzzle piece,” Head Coach Holder said in a university-issues press release. “The sky’s the limit for us. We’ve got a motivated team, we’ve got a fantastic group coming in, we’ve got a fantastic group of returners.
Assistant Coach Laughlin is honored to serve Ashland University Swim and Dive program and is ready for the upcoming season.
“I honestly am so honored and blessed to be a part of the Ashland Swim and Dive community again and can’t wait for the season to begin,” Assistant Coach Laughlin said. “Go Eagles.”
