Wrestling Recap: Eagles fall to Falcons
January 21, 2016
The No. 20 ranked Eagles fell last night to the No. 1 ranked Falcons of Notre Dame College.
Despite falling to the Falcons 37-3, senior Joe Brant got his 99th match win. Brant is currently ranked third in the country in his 197-pound-weight class.
Last night Brant took on NDC’s Garrett Lineberger who is ranked No. 4 in the weight class. Brant took the match in a 3-1 decision, marking his 99th of his collegiate career, and improving his record 99-24.
Defeating the No. 4 ranked Falcon was not the only nationally ranked opponent Brant has faced this season. On Saturday at the Eagle’s home dual meet versus Lake Erie College, Brant took down No. 8 ranked Evan Rosborough in a 3-1 decision.
Brant will look to make his own collegiate first at the team’s next dual and win his 100th match.
A significant loss to the Falcons could have resulted from the Eagles having forfeited two matches giving NDC 12 free team points, although the Eagles struggled to find success throughout the whole night.
Senior Nigel Cross fell in a 6-0 decision along with freshman Chandler Minnard who lost in a 4-0 decision.
The team’s loss makes their overall record 2-4 for the season in Dual Meets.
The team will be able to redeem themselves next weekend in the Region II Duals in Hartsville S.C. on Jan. 29-30, where Brant will also look to win his 100th match.
