January 17, 2016
After recently being ranked in a tie for 20th in the nation and sixth in Super Region II in the latest Division II Wrestling Coaches Association rankings, the Eagles fell short to the Lake Erie Storm Saturday night 22-15.
After a valiant effort by the Eagles, the team fell short, although the dual of the night featured senior Joe Brant, who is currently ranked No. 3 in the nation in the 197-pound weight class.
Brant faced No. 8 ranked Evan Rosborough, who put up a fight as they remained tight until Brant preserved, taking his opponent down, giving him a 3-0 score late in the second period. Brant won by a 4-1 decision, improving his overall record to 12-2.
Senior Zeb Beam who defeated his opponent in the 157-pound weight class in a 10-4 decision, making his season record 8-8, gave another great effort.
Redshirt Bobby Mason tallied another victory for the Eagles, by a close 3-2 decision.
Despite falling to the Storm, the Eagles still possessed three nationally ranked wrestlers on their squad. Along with Brant who is ranked third, freshman Chandler Minnard is ranked sixth in the 133-pound weight class and redshirt freshman Sebastian Vidika is ranked eighth in the 125-pound weight class.
The Eagles will look ahead to their next dual versus Notre Dame College. The meet will begin at 7 p.m. on the Falcons home territory on Wednesday.
