The Ashland University Fraternity, Kappa Sigma, annually puts on the event, Walk a Mile in a Soldier’s Shoes.
“It started back in 2013, when we got rechartered back on campus. Our HQ makes us do a philanthropy event each year that relates to the military and Veterans,” said Caleb Shriver, former president of Kappa Sigma.
The event will take place on April 6, beginning at 10 a.m.
“All you really need is backpacks, sandbags,” said Shriver “You got the route – that is pretty much it. A lot of what we have to do is marketing and getting people to sponsor the event every mile we run” For each mile the brothers walk or run, community members can donate money to help out the philanthropy.
The starting point is the flagpole in the quad, with the ending point rounding back at the flagpole. From there, brothers run or walk about one mile on the designated route around campus, with some taking extra laps.
In past years, only brothers would participate in the activity. Starting this year, the fraternity invites Ashland community members to get involved as well. “This year, we’re inviting everyone to do it,” said Shriver, “Anyone can come out and run if they please.”
