This spring semester, Ashland University’s Recreation and Wellness’ Group X offers the Ashland community several opportunities to exercise weekly.
Group X offers classes focused on cardiorespiratory endurance, muscular endurance, muscular strength and flexibility.
“I hope [my students] get encouragement and empowerment and feel good about themselves,.” Falynn Alneda, a Group X cycling instructor, says of her goal for her class.
Her cycling class meets Wednesdays from 12:15 P.M. to 12:45 P.M., and other cycling classes meet Monday from 6:15 P.M. to 7:05 P.M. along with Tuesday and Thursday from 5:15 P.M. to 6:05 P.M.
Other classes include High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT), Full Body Burn and Line Dancing.
Most of these classes are held in the Recreation & Wellness Center’s Aerobics Studio and can host up to 30 people.
“I would definitely recommend coming and trying [a class] out. We have a wide range of classes that can fit the needs or interests of many different people,” said Nick Sparr, organizer of the Group X schedule.
He also mentioned that the instructors are welcoming and make everyone in the class feel comfortable.
The wide range of classes available to the community are an important part of the Group X mission. “We understand that not every class is for everyone so offering a wide range of classes with different focuses is needed,” Sparr said.
One of Group X’s goals is to offer a range of exercise options anyone in the community can participate in.
“The hardest part is getting started. If you want to join a Group X class, do it.” Maddie Aumend, a HIIT instructor, said.
