Eagles finish at GLIAC Championships

After Days 3 and 4 of the Swimming and Diving GLIAC Championship Meet several Eagles are brining home success back to Ashland.

Senior Hannah Mattar placed seventh in the women’s 200 breaststroke, coming in at 2:21.52.

Senior Kaylyn Murphy placed fifth in the women’s 100 free. With this place, she reached the podium on all four days of the completion. Murphy finished eighth in the 100-yard backstroke, third in the 50 free and third in the 200-yard relay.

Sophomore Ryan Deemer claimed a bronze medal in the men’s 1,650-yard freestyle, touching in at 15:58.98, a new NCAA Championships “B” cut time.

Freshman Daniel Callis also made it to the podium for the 200-yard breaststroke, touching the wall at 2:04.87.

The women’s relay team of Grace Reichard, Julia Grady, sophomore Zoe Scarpone and Murphy took fifth place in the 400-free.

Overall, the Eagle women finished the meet in seventh place out of ten with 269 team points. Wayne State took the Championship with 840.5 team points.

On the men’s side, as a team they finished in seventh as well, out of eight teams. The Eagles were able to collect 261.5 points while the winner, Grand Valley State University, took the gold with 840 points.

The NCAA Championships will begin on March 8 in Indianapolis, Ind.
