Founded by Ashland University students, Rachel Crumbacher and Cat Davis, Bread Club makes its grand debut, welcoming new members as the fall 2023 semester comes to a close.
The idea for the club was formed over this fall, inspired by one of Crumbacher’s childhood friends joining “Bread Club” at The Ohio State University. After hearing about this, Crumbacher knew she wanted to bring her spin on it to AU, so she shared her thoughts with Davis.
As of now, the club plans to meet once a month to chill, listen to music, and make baked goods. “It’s called ‘Bread Club’ because that’s a little more fun than ‘Baking Club’. We’ve taken ideas from OSU, but we’ll make things other than bread like pretzels, pastries, and tarts – things like that,” said Davis.
Currently, the meeting place for the club is the kitchen on the first floor of Amstutz.
The founders explained that this club is a fun and simple way for students to learn more about baking in small time increments. “It’s something that can be done in a reasonable amount of time like an hour and a half to two hours,” said Crumbacher, “[Members] will also leave with individual pastries they can take back to their rooms and share with people.”
Davis explained that the main fun of Bread Club is to learn recipes with friends and go home with more of an understanding of baking than when they joined the club.
As of right now, the roster includes around 11-12 members on Engage Ashland but continues to grow as it’s been gaining traction throughout campus.
Bread Club’s first meeting is Tuesday, Dec. 5 at 7 p.m. in Rec Center room 220. For any questions, email [email protected] or contact @AUbreadclub on Instagram.
