AU International Club holds World Café
February 25, 2016
Ashland University’s International Club held World Café at the Eagle’s Landing on Feb. 17. International student from Germany, Phil Bal, gave a presentation to introduce his hometown.
The event had about 35 people in attendance and the International Club provided chips, cookies and brownies. Daniela Alves, president of International Club, was really happy to see people getting involved. Alves is from Campinas, Brazil and she has been working with the International Club for two years.
“The main purpose of holding the world café event is to spread the culture around campus,” said Alves. “It is an opportunity for each foreign student to share their culture, their history and where they are from.”
Yu Luo, an international student from China, loves going to the World Café. She heard about this event from an International Club staff and decided to stop by Eagle’s Landing.
“I think it is good to have this kind of presentations because there are people out there who are interested in other cultures, and they would enjoy the presentation,” said Luo. “Personally, my favorite parts of the presentation were the food and festivals.”
World Café is a monthly event, held on Wednesdays, that is sponsored by the International Club. Each time there would be one or more international students to present, and the topics are often related to the presenter’s own country. The International Club has been doing World Café for three years.
