The Ashland University Eagles indoor track and field teams took the bull by the horns and finished the season off strong by winning four individual conference championships. The women’s team placed third and the men finished fourth overall with Grand Valley State taking both team titles.

Junior Megan Tomei was a double winner with championships in the shot put and weight throw. She won the shot put with a distance of 15.57 meters and the weight throw with a distance of 19.73 meters. Tomei also earned an automatic qualifying mark for that event.

Sophomore Irene Skinner also was a double winner by taking the title in the 400 meters with a time 56.08 and also was a part of the winning 4×400 relay, which consisted of herself, junior Nuri Lee, senior Lauren Ellsworth, and junior Tiarra Kick and improved upon their previous provisional mark with a time of 3:51.09.

Ellsworth took second in the 200-meters with an improved national provisional mark of 24.83 seconds and also took fourth in the 60-meter dash.

Sophomores Hannah Bartlome and Marie Hammer took second and third respectively in the women’s pentathlon. Bartlome finished with a score of 3,516 points with Hammer scoring 3,464 points.

On the men’s side, they were just as successful with many top five finishes in their events.

Junior Jordan Crayon took second in the weight throw with a distance of 20.46 meters while his teammate junior Bryn Campbell took third in the event.

In the men’s 60-meter dash senior Eric Thompkins and freshman Brandon Wilson both scored provisional cuts in the preliminaries with Thompkins scoring a time of 6.80 and Wilson with a 6.86. Thompkins’ time was good enough for second in prelims with Wilson being sixth.

In the final, Wilson took seventh and Thompkins took eighth.

Thompkins also took second in the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.04 after being seeded first in the final.

Freshman Tyler Sievert took second place in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:55.19.

To add to the provisional cut madness, junior Trent Balduff scored a new provisional cut in the men’s pole vault with a height of 4.67 meters.

The Eagles that qualify will be going on to the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships in Pittsburg, Kansas on March 11 and 12.
