Another week, another two wins for the Ashland University women’s soccer team. The Eagles and Lake Erie College Storm took on one another at Ferguson Field on Saturday, Oct. 14, with both sides looking for a win as the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (GMAC) regular season rolls on.
When the two sides went toe-to-toe, it would be the Eagles who would dominate from start to finish en route to a 3-0 win over the Storm.
In the first half of play, the Eagles came out swinging like they have all season long as they produced five quick shots within the first 20 minutes of play. For the Storm, they recorded just one shot through that amount of time.
Defensively, the Eagles remained strong as they allowed very little pressure on goalkeeper Mackenzie Simon.
After the opening 20 minutes, both teams would continue to push the pace of play in hopes of finding the opening score. However, no team would be able to and they would cap off the first 45 minutes with a 0-0 scoreline.
In the first half, Simon recorded two saves, while the offensive threat for the Eagles was forward McKinley Mendenhall with two shots.
Heading into the second half of play, the Eagles were looking to protect its undefeated record while also looking to push its win-streak to seven games.
To begin, they instantly made their offensive presence known.
With a head full of steam, the Eagles would take the lead in the 49th minute. Mendenhall would position herself with a chance to score, and ultimately would find a strong finish to secure the opening goal giving the Eagles a 1-0 lead.
The Eagles, with new found momentum, continued to ramp up the pressure and just three minutes later in the 52nd minute they would find a second goal.
This time the score came from forward Tori Haggit, who would find her first of the season alongside the help of forward Dani Hicks. Haggit’s one shot on goal was able to find the back of the net, comfortably positioning the Eagles with a chance to finish the contest strong.
As the second half continued to roll on, the pace of play would not slow down for the Eagle offense as they would find a third and final goal in the 72nd minute. Freshman midfielder Clara Richardson would find her third goal of the season from the help off forwards Sydney Polen and Macayla Harris who were credited for the assists.
With a 3-0 lead, the Eagles comfortably waltzed to a win.
Simon would make just one save in the second half as the Eagle defense held strong allowing just three shots in the second 45 minutes, for a total of six in the entire outing. The Eagles on the other hand finished the game with 21 shots and 13 of them being on target.
The Eagles next look to take on the Northwood Timberwolves on Tuesday, Oct. 17, with kickoff set for 2:30 P.M. on the road at the Dean Soccer Field.
