The Oct. 2 Great Midwest Athletic Conference (GMAC) Players of the Week (POTW) awards featured four players from the Eagles taking home recognitions.
Ashland University has seen countless student-athletes recognized in each week of the awards, now through five batches of awards.
On the side of the football team, kick returner Dezmin Lyburtus won the Special Teams Player of the Week award. Lyburtus en route to a 20-6 win over the Ohio Dominican Panthers returned a kick 90 yards for a touchdown to help a struggling offense.
For the men’s soccer team, the Eagles took home both the Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week awards. Junior goalkeeper Ty Bowden led the Eagles to no losses this week with two wins coming against the Ohio Dominican Panthers and the Findlay Oilers. He totaled five saves in both contests.
On the offensive side of the ball, junior Rodri Fernandez recorded two goals and four assists against the Panthers and Oilers and helped the previously struggling team get to second place in the conference.
Meanwhile, on the volleyball court, senior libero Katie Thompson continued her excellent play with her second Defensive Player of the Week award in a row. The Eagles went 3-0 this week with Thompson finishing with 75 total digs and 15 assists.
This is the first time this fall season the Eagles have had four athletes lauded for their performances in one week.
