For the first time since the 2020 academic year the Residence Life office is fully staffed.
With the office being filled, positions such as the Assistant Director of Housing and Operations as well as Assistant Director of Residence Life/College of Nursing Campus are in full operation along with two new Residence Life Coordinators (RLCs) overseeing Resident Assistants (RAs).
With these positions being filled nearly all of the Reslife team is new to the office and eager to serve the campus community with all their housing needs.
The staff includes newcomers to the RLC position Jamarius Lloyd along with Jesse McAndrew who both have extensive backgrounds in Residence Life.
RLC Lloyd being a recent Ashland University grad and former RA while RLC McAndrew has filled many positions in Reslife and Reslife affiliated groups such as the OSU Newark Community Council.
Along with newcomers to the staff is returning RLC Sarah Grissom who is on her second year with the reslife team.
Other newcomers to the staff are the Assistant Director of Housing Kori Roberts and Abby Johns who is the Assistant Director of Residence Life – College of Nursing Campus (AD of Reslife) who has been a part of Reslife for five years.
An important focus of the Reslife team is the community that AU fosters, which is a joint effort between the RLCs and the RAs they lead.
RLC Lloyd puts this inro perspective saying, “we are very inclusive and believe that everyone here on the Ashland campus belongs. This means that no resident in any residence hall should be treated differently based on any aspect of their beliefs, religion, or gender.”
The team hopes to keep students engaged and promote welcomeness through events held by their RAs as well as a focus on making sure the residents of AU have ample opportunity to attend campus sponsored events and heavily encourage the use of the Ashland Engage website.
This new staff is passionate about Reslife and work together as a cohesive unit to produce the best on campus living experience for the AU community.
“We all listen and care about each other, push each other up, and help when and where we can. This is a very supportive team,” said Johns.
The sentiment is echoed by her office mates. Each member expresses their excitement for the new year and the change to help the residents of AU through their stay on the main and Mansfield campuses.
