The Ashland University football team has turned heads in the NCAA Division II football scene, but this time, it was not in a positive light.
After falling to Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP) to start the season on the road, the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) has released its first regular season Top 25 poll, with the Eagles moving to the No. 21 position.
In the loss to IUP, the Eagles put up just 17 points while allowing 24 and the offense was stagnant in comparison to last season. They finished the contest with 190 total offensive yards, with the Crimson Hawks putting up over 400 on the board.
Heading into the contest, the preseason AFCA poll placed the Eagles at No. 12 in the nation.
Unfortunately for the Eagles, the team’s next contest only gets harder as they take on the two-time defending national championship-winning Ferris State Bulldogs.
The two sides will go toe-to-toe on Saturday, Sept. 9, with kickoff set for 7 p.m. at Jack Miller Stadium in Ashland, Ohio. The game is considered a top-four contest this week in D-II football.
