Eagles split with Walsh and prepare for Cedarville

Ashland’s University’s baseball team played four Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference games over the weekend (April 23/24) at Walsh.
On Saturday, the Eagles split a pair of games, winning 5-3 and losing 14-12.
In Game 1, AU (25-14, 16-4 GLIAC) started the scoring via a Nick Edwards two-run home run in the second. J.P. Sorma added an RBI single in the third, putting Ashland up, 3-0.
The Cavaliers (20-20, 11-9 GLIAC) put three runs on the board in the bottom of the third to tie the game at 3-3.
Greg Ludwig then hit a solo home run in the fifth to put the Eagles back ahead for good, and Lance Myers added an RBI single in the seventh to finish off Ashland’s scoring.
Right-handed pitcher Brandyn Sittinger allowed six hits and struck out 12 in the complete-game victory for AU.
Myers went 3-for-4 and Sorma went 2-for-3 to lead AU’s offense.
In Game 2, the offense of both squads were on full display.
Walsh had an 8-1 lead after four innings. Ashland then plated seven runs in the fifth, and added four more in the sixth to jump ahead of the Cavaliers, 12-8.
Walsh was not done scoring, though, as they plated three runs in the bottom of the sixth and eighth innings for the final runs of the game.
Edwards, Myers and Mike Lewandowski each had three hits for AU, while Mackenzie Hampshire and Ludwig each added two.
AU pitcher Mike Gentile took the loss in relief.
On Sunday, AU split a pair again, winning 11-2 and losing 12-10.
In Game 1, Ludwig hit an RBI single in the first to give the Eagles an early 1-0 lead. Adam Vasil followed in the second with a three-run home run, putting AU ahead 4-0.
Leading 4-1 after four innings, Ashland added four runs in the fifth, highlighted by a Hampshire three-run homer. In the sixth, the Eagles added three more runs to finish off their scoring.
Right-handed pitcher Jake Baldwin (3-0) finally returned for Ashland, going three innings. He allowed four hits, one run and struck out four.
Lewandowski and Ludwig paced the AU offense with three hits each, while Hampshire knocked in four runs. The Eagles had 13 hits as a team.
In Game 2, Ashland and Walsh were tied 10-10 in the bottom of the fourth inning when the Cavaliers plated eight runs to take the lead for good.
Cameron Nunn went 4-for-4, Ludwig went 3-for-5 (double, home run, three RBIs), Sorma went 2-for-5 (home run, three RBIs) and Myers went 2-for-5 (double, two RBIs) to lead the offense for AU.
Mitch Cox suffered the loss for Ashland, allowing four unearned runs, one hit, three walks and striking out two in 2/3 of an inning of work.
AU visits Cedarville (13-22) on April 26 for a nonconference matchup. The Eagles played the Yellow Jackets on March 22, beating them, 26-2.
