After toughing the cold weather over the weekend, the Ashland University Softball team was able to come out strong, sweeping the Walsh Cavaliers last night.

The wins were not the only celebration of the evening. The Eagles also celebrated their senior night as the team’s five seniors played a significant part in their recent victories.

In the first game of the double header, the Eagles scored once in the bottom of the first on a sacrifice fly by senior first baseman, Jen Moore.

Senior pitcher Sarah Alley had an RBI followed by senior Bri Buckley’s run scoring single and junior right-fielder Jenny Raguz’s two RBIs on a single.

Alley improved her record to 10-6. She allowed only two runs, four walks and struck out four.

The second half of the night called for another victory for the Eagle’s as they were able to run-rule the Cavaliers. The team was able to score in every inning, starting out with another strong first, making it home four times.

Senior left fielder Shelbie Prince and Buckley had three of AU’s 13 hits while sophomore Sadie Cunningham went 2-for-2 with a double and three RBIs.

Prince, Moore, Alley and Buckley combined for eight hits, six runs and six RBIs.

Senior pitcher Brittany Flanigan pitched a scoreless fifth inning and freshman Hannah Store improved her record to 4-6 after throwing four scoreless innings.

AU will close out the regular season with ten consecutive road games beginning tonight with a rescheduled doubleheader with the Tiffin Dragons at 3:30 p.m.
