Track and Field mid-season report

With the change in the weather, the Ashland University Eagles track and field team is getting better than before. Already they have two members of the team reach automatic qualifying bids with 24 others reaching provisional cuts.

For the women, senior Jamie Sindelar leads the way with a national-leading shot put distance of 16.10 meters. She is the only member of the women’s team to automatically qualify for nationals so far this season.

On the men’s side, three hammer throwers are among the top five throwers in the country. Junior Jordan Crayon is second in the country with a distance of 66.88 meters with fellow junior Bryn Campbell and sophomore Clayton Jury being third and fifth respectively.

Both of Ashland University’s outdoor track and field teams are nationally-ranked in the week six U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field National Team Computer Rankings released on Tuesday.

The Eagle men are ranked eighth in the country this week, while the AU women are back in the rankings at No. 25.

The NCAA championships will take place in Bradenton, Florida from May 26-28.

The Eagles return to action this weekend by splitting up with part of the team will go to the Jesse Owens Track & Field Classic in Columbus. The rest will go to the  Sparky Adams Invitational in Berea.
