International Club holds potluck
April 3, 2016
On April 1, Ashland University’s International Club held a potluck at the lower chapel. Members of the International Club prepared traditional food from their hometown and shared them with people who attended.
Some students majoring hospitality also attended the food party.
Potluck is an annually event that the International Club has during spring. This event is an opportunity for American students to try food from foreign countries. Meanwhile, the event helps encourage international student to socialize and interact with American students.
Martina Baca, a member of the club, thought that the potluck had a great turnout.
“There was food from Bangladesh, China, and there was food from the States, too,” Baca said. “It was a good way to bring not only the international community but everybody together to share and try different kinds of food and to have fun.”
Some of the food dishes included spicy boneless curry chicken, egg curry, vegetable pulao (Bangladeshi food), burgers, taco dip and many others. Most students have never tried either of these dishes and they found it to be really exciting.
Even though the John C. Myers Convocation Center changes the food menu frequently and sometimes serves non-American food, after living in the U.S. for a couple of months, many international students start to miss the taste of food from their hometown.
The potluck event became a good chance for those who want to eat traditional food from their own country.
