On March 30, The Collegian traveled to Columbus to win three first place awards in the state from the Ohio News Media Association 2023 Collegiate Newspaper and Website Competition.

The requirements for the competition were from any works published from August 1, 2021 to July 31, 2022.

All category winners were in Division B of the competition, which was colleges and universities who had less than 10,000 students in total.

The winners were in each of following categories:
Category 05: Sport Coverage – 1st Place – Ashland University The Collegian – Staff
Category 08: Headline Writing – 1st Place – Ashland University The Collegian – Katelyn Meeks
Category 10: Best Website – 1st Place – Ashland University The Collegian – Staff

The headline that won was “Let’s Get That Snitch!: Ashland Sidewinders teach how to play Quidditch” from an article published last spring.

The Collegian plans to continue entering works in the competition and to hopefully, to place in categories across the board.
