Remembering the 90’s: A music festival to honor the nostalgic decade in Columbus, Ohio

It was an era dedicated to hair scrunchies, Easy-Bake Ovens, mood rings, rollerblades, Furbies, and neon windbreakers. Although, no one could forget watching their favorite Saturday morning cartoons like Doug, Rugrats, SpongeBob, or All That.

In middle school, it was super trendy to tote around a giant CD player, jamming out to Britney Spears and NSYNC on repeat. When one had a sleepover with friends, he or she would often look for answers, turning to the alluring Magic 8 Ball or stay up all night trading Pokémon cards.  From reading the terrifying Goosebumps series, applying candy-flavored Lip Smacker Chapstick, or even sporting oversized flannels, there were a lot of items that made one feel super cool during this time. Of course, Nestle Wonder Balls were everything.

The 90’s allowed us to embrace our inner kid-at-heart; with all of the weird, crazy, and totally amazing memories that it had to offer, the 90’s will always remain nostalgic.

To celebrate everything 90’s, a music festival called the “90’s Fest” will feature a variety of beloved artists from the decade including Sister Hazel, Vertical Horizon, and Bone Thugs N Harmony.

Hosted by comedian and actor Pauly Shore, the event first began in Brooklyn, NY in 2015. Currently, the 90’s Fest is in three cities: Columbus, New York, and Pittsburgh.

“The beauty of the 90’s Fest is that it is kind of all in the name,” said Marc Weinstein, the managing partner of the 90’s Fest. “The 90’s Fest is a celebration of the best decade ever. It is more than just a music festival or a concert; it is a celebration of all things 90’s- from fashion, to pop-culture, to food, [and] music.”

With many famous artists performing from the 90’s, everyone that attends the event will get to hear one of their favorites.

“It is really cool to see close-up my favorite artists [and] performers from my childhood,” said Weinstein. “I am definitely excited to see Sister Hazel; I think that they put on a great show and are a ton of fun.”

Along with an incredible lineup that is going to make one feel as though they stepped inside a totally rad time machine, one has the opportunity to play a variety of fun games, eat lots of delicious food, get “slimed,” and shop for official 90’s Fest merchandise.

“I have been around since it was just a small idea,” said Weinstein. “To see it grow into what it has become and have so many people impacted by the brand has been really fun.”

This event is for one day only. Both general admission early-bird access and VIP early-bird access are sold out. General admission, VIP, and Super VIP tickets are still available for purchase. With only 20 Super VIP tickets offered, entry is limited.

The fest is taking place on September 16 at 4 p.m. at the Columbus Commons Pavilion in Columbus, OH. Tickets are $60 to $300, based on city.

The 90’s Fest is sure to be “the bomb,” so make sure to come dressed in one’s favorite 90’s apparel. Until then, peace out, home-slice.
