Ashland Symphony Orchestra, Press Release

The Ashland Symphony Orchestra will present its concert season finale on Saturday, April 1 at
7:30 p.m. at the Robert M. & Janet L. Archer Auditorium at Ashland High School.

“Triumph & Celebration” opens with “Symphonic Variations on an African Air, op.63” by Samuel Coleridge-Taylor. Coleridge-Taylor is one of the greatest composers of the turn of the last century. Written in 1906, just 6 years before his death at age 37, these variations, based on an African folk hymn, have been said to be one of his finest compositions. Bringing Grammy® winner Michael Repper’s debut season to a celebratory end is “Symphony No.2, op.27, E minor” by Sergei Rachmaninoff. The enthusiastic reaction to the premiere of this symphony breathed new life into the composer’s career; a true testament to triumph and celebration! And the piece has had a lasting impact not just in classical music but also in classic rock – Eric Carmen used the theme from the third movement as the basis for his famous rock ballad “Never Gonna Fall in Love Again.”

Tickets for “Triumph & Celebration” are $24 for adults and $21 for seniors and may be purchased online, by phone, or at the door. Child and student tickets are free with the purchase of an adult or senior ticket, though they may be purchased for $5 each to benefit the Symphony.

The ASO also offers reduced price tickets ($5) to persons receiving Medicaid, EBT, SNAP, and WIC. Free and reduced price tickets are only available by phone or at the door.
