How to: avoid the “freshman 15”
August 25, 2016
Being an incoming freshman is a stressful transition. Among the many things new college students are worried about, gaining the freshman 15 should not be one of them.
With one of the best cafeterias in the nation along with an unlimited meal plan, it may become difficult to keep the weight off.
Follow these 16 tips to keep your figure in tip-top shape through freshman year.
1. Even though the food at Convo may be tempting, make healthy decisions. There are plenty of healthy options to choose from.
2. Check out Convo’s daily menu and pick out one or two cheat days to get food that may not be as healthy. Use the other five days of the week to stay on track.
3. Drink a glass of water before eating.
4. Eat slowly.
5. Limit your trips to fat bar to once or twice a week.
6. Eat at regular times and try to not skip meals.
7. Do not forget breakfast.
8. Avoid over-snacking when you are in your dorm, especially when you are stressed, studying, or watching TV.
9. Use the Rec Center. You’re already paying for it. There a number of free classes the Rec offers that anyone can participate in.
10. If you like to run outdoors, explore the running trails that are walking distance from campus.
11. Exercise with a buddy. Working out alone is great, but staying in shape is easier with a friend who will hold you accountable.
12. Join sports clubs.
13. Realize the reality of alcohol and binge-drinking.
14. Get enough sleep.
15. Drink tea or black coffee rather than coffee loaded with cream and sugar.
16. Don’t forget to use the health center to your benefit. Again, you already pay for it!
Follow these tips, and by the end of your freshman year, the only thing you will have gained is knowledge.
