Ashland University’s Varsity Call of Duty Team fell to Fanshawe College in Week Four of the NACE Starleague.
The Eagles put up a good fight against Fanshawe College with the game modes being Hardpoint, Search and Destroy, and Control, over the course of a best-of-five series.
The Eagles started off strong claiming some of the hardpoint positions in the game, however, the final score for the mode was 250-160 Fanshawe College. While the team fell, Eagle player Connor Milne secured 26 eliminations in the loss.
After Fanshawe took map one, both teams headed into map two with the game mode being Search and Destroy.
Ashland had some close moments, however, at the end of map two, the Ashland Eagles fell with a final score of 6-0 Fanshawe College.
Knowing that Ashland has only one map until Fanshawe wins, they had to pull off something big to have a chance at bringing the series back.
Ashland kept the faith when going into map three with the game mode of Control, where the aim is to try to control two points on the map without running out of lives. Fanshawe was able to gain the first two rounds on them. Ashland was unable to get one round on them, but after that, they were unable to respond back as they ended up losing.
In the end, Fanshawe would take the next round, being 3-1 in Fanshawe’s favor, and the final score was 0-3 on the cards.
After the game the players reflected on what they needed to accomplish for future coming games. eSports player Phillip Howman reflected on the loss and explored what needs to be done.
“I still think the future is looking bright, we ended last season with confidence and now we’re just having more growing pains than other teams are,” Howman said. “As far as the game goes, we just gotta get better, this is a team game, we’re not gonna win with only 1 person always doing good. We need to get that motivation back.”
eSports player Connor Milne also wants to see the team stay confident as the season comes to a close.
“I think the future is bright despite our recent troubles. We are a team that knows we can win, and right now we just need to get a win to get that ball rolling again, to build some momentum,” said Milne. “We need to work on our consistency. We have some games where at times, we look very good. Then we have other times when we look lost on the map.”
The Eagles, now 1-3 on the season, look to take on their next opponent, St. Edward’s University, on Wednesday, March 1, at 7 p.m.
