Ashland University to ‘pull down’ tagline
August 25, 2016
Since 2014, “Where Extraordinary Happens on Ordinary Days” has been Ashland University’s tagline. It can be seen on banners around campus, postcards to potential students, and much more, and after two years, that tagline will be pulled down.
“Over the last year we’ve been looking at identity issues as a primary focus or Ashland and we just didn’t feel like the tagline said a lot about who we were,” said Ashland University President Dr. Carlos Campo. “We felt like it sounded a little bit corporate.”
Campo said the decision came after talking with many students, student leadership, alumni, and others. There was no single meeting to decide to pull down the tagline but the issue had been brought up dozens of times at meetings of the cabinet, academic leaders, student leadership, and the board.
“By pulling the tagline down and reinforcing ‘Accent on the Individual’ which has really been our motto for so long, it’s the right step for us,” said Campo.
Although “Accent on the Individual” has been a motto for the university, there are no immediate plans to introduce a new tagline.
“’Accent on the Individual’ is less of a tag line and more of a matter of who we describe ourselves to be and who we are,” said Vice President of Enrollment Management, Michael Hollenbaugh.
All official university communications will use the seal.
“It’s more collegiate than the old logo and the extraordinary tagline,” said Campo.
AU plans on having a “drop dead date” by possibly the end of the year at which all items with the tagline will officially be pulled down.
