Familiar faces return for AU women’s soccer

The Ashland Eagles women’s soccer team returns to the field for the upcoming 2016 season with their sights set high.  The Lady Eagles look to continue the success that they had with last year’s 14-4-1 season.

Since Coach Danny Krispinsky took over the program in 2013, the Lady Eagles have had consecutive winning seasons.  A winning culture has been established at Ashland and it would be fair to say that Coach Krispinsky and his squad expect to perform at the highest level when they step onto the field.

The team will be led by lone senior defender Jessica Brown from Hamilton, Ohio.

“Jess is definitely the leader on the team,” said Krispinsky. “We couldn’t have picked a better person for that role.  She leads by her actions, examples, and her words. We are certainly blessed to have her.”

Last year’s sophomore group proved to be incredibly valuable in the success that the team had last year. As juniors, they plan to pick up where they left off.

Junior forward Morgan Bittengle lead the team in scoring with 11 goals for the season making 27 for her career.  Fellow junior forward and midfielder, Kelsey McKernan, contributed seven goals last season.

Other juniors like Carson Janssen, Brittany Ehlert, Courtney Barker, Bridget McEldowney, and Julie Lacock are expected to have big seasons for the Lady Eagles as well.

Also returning this fall is GLIAC Freshman of the Year recipient Deijah Swihart, who also looks to improve from her seven goal freshman season.

Swihart combined with fellow scoring threats, Bittengle and McKernan, look to create havoc for opposing defenders this upcoming season.

Coach Krispinsky brought in five incoming freshmen and expects them to be ready to contribute towards.

The Lady Eagles soccer team will start the first two games of the season on the road at Truman on Sep. 1 and Quincy Sep.3.  Their first home game will be Sep. 6 at 6 p.m. versus West Liberty.
