The Ashland Eagles (2-0-1) women’s soccer team cruised to a 4-0 victory over non-conference opponent, West Liberty (0-2), on Tuesday night.

The 23rd ranked Eagles dominated their opponent in their first home game of the season after returning from a pair of gritty road games against nationally ranked opponents.

Freshman, Juliana Markovic, was the first to find the back of the net with a shot from distance well beyond the penalty box half way into the first half.

The goal was a first for Markovic as an Eagle.

She was followed by a goal from the top of the box from Junior Britteny Ehlert that gave the Eagles a 2-0 halftime lead over the Hilltoppers.

It did not take long in the second half for the Eagles to go up 3-0 with a breakaway strike from senior defender Jessica Brown.

Not to be outdone by her fellow freshman teammate, Amber White finished off the scoring when her shot skid past the West Liberty keeper for what would also be her first goal as an Eagle.

Coach Danny Krispinsky was pleased with the play of his younger players.

“Our freshmen have done a great job since day one of preseason,” Krispinsky said.  “Them getting on the score sheet and contributing like this is not a surprise to me or the team, because thats what they have been doing.”

While Coach Krispinsky was proud of his team’s performance, he still has higher expectations of what his team can achieve this season.

“Even though we won today I felt like it was too sloppy, too sloppy from every position for us, and if you ask the girls they would say the same thing.”

The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletics Conference defensive player of the week Courtney Barker did not face too many shots with the Eagles defense limiting West Liberty to only 3 shots the entire game.

The next game for the Eagles will be Sunday 1 p.m. at home against Clarion.
