As a creative way to bring students together, the Alpha Phi sisters are cooking your childhood favorite dish: mac n’ cheese.

Alpha Phi sorority member, sophomore Whitney Smart, is a nursing major. She is also the director of programming of her sorority.

“We are really trying to reach out to the younger classmen because we know that they only have unlimited swipes to Convo, so we are trying to switch it up a little,” Smart said.

On the official flyer advertising for the event, it reads: “Mac n Phi’s” As a fun, silly title, the Alpha Phi sisters thought the name was sure to captivate students right away.

“It was unique to use because [our sorority name] sort of rhymes [with it],” Smart said. It is a play on words.”

Sophomore nursing major Alyssa Beto says that all of the money raised for the event goes towards the Alpha Phi Foundation, which specializes in raising money for women’s cardiac care.

“I think it is cool that [our event] is open to everyone, so you do not need to be in Greek Life to [attend],” said Beto.

Sophomore biology major Michael Williams plans on attending the event with friends. He says he is very optimistic about the event having a great turnout and cannot wait to relax and just have a good time meeting all sorts of new, friendly faces.

Sophomore Vincent Hill is a business management and entrepreneurship major. As a football player, he is very excited about Ashland University’s first game against Mercyhurst. He plans on attending the mac n’ cheese event with his teammates afterwards.

“I have been talking to a couple of the guys and they all said it was going to be [really] fun,” said Hill.

Junior Tyren Jackson is a sports management major. Also a football player, he plans on attending the event with his teammates. He noted that he is most looking forward to eating the delicious mac n’ cheese.

“I feel like this could bring us together because new people are coming in and may not know everyone at this point,” said Jackson. “So, [while the sorority] cooks some food and raises money; people can hang out and mingle. This is going [make] the community closer; we may even find out information that we did not [previously] know about [Alpha Phi].”

The event is taking place on Sept. 1. The Alpha Phi sisters are selling plates of gooey mac n’ cheese for all to enjoy for $2 on the Kilhefner patio from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m.
