The Ashland Eagles women’s soccer team kicked of the 2016 season on Thursday with a 1-1 tie versus nationally ranked Truman State University in Missouri.

Sophomore Lauren Gokey gave the Eagles the early lead with her shot from distance half way into the first half. The goal was set up by freshmen Korrina Lakes and Juliana Markovic.

Truman State would tie up the game in the second half with a breakaway equalizer from Hanna Burke.

The game was tied at the end of regulation time and two extra periods were needed, but neither teams could capitalize.

Statistically the game was just as close as the score with both teams tying in shots taken (11) and fouls (10).

The ladies will take the show back on the road to Illinois Saturday to face Quincy at 12 p.m.
