AU tennis takes early losses at home

The Ashland University women’s tennis team had their first match of the season against the Wayne State Warriors on Sept. 10.
All three doubles lost against Wayne State, by scores of 8-1, 8-1 and 8-2 to start the day off. The only singles winner was senior Meghann Fitzpatrick.
She won the first set 6-1 and 6-1 the second. Wayne State won eight out of nine matches.
Following the loss against Wayne State, the Ashland University women’s tennis team played their second match of the season against the Hillsdale Chargers.
Before the match on Sunday, there was a dedication ceremony for Deborah Liebert Karl.
She is the woman who donated the money for the new tennis courts to Ashland University. Along with the tennis courts the donation included, benches, scoreboards, wind screens and bleachers.
When the Eagles played the Chargers they were once again defeated 8-1. They lost two out of the three doubles matches. Senior Meghann Fitzpatrick won her doubles match, alongside her sophomore partner Kaitlin Snider.. They won the doubles match 8-6.
With all six of the singles matches that it did not end up going Ashland’s way either. Fitzpatrick put up a fight after winning the singles match the day before and doubles match with Snider.
Unfortunately, she came up short to Halle Hyman, from Hillsdale in two sets, 6-4, 6-4.
This week the Eagles will hit the road for the first time this season as they take on Michigan Tech in Houghton, Michigan on Saturday Sept. 17 and at Lake Superior State on Sept. 18.
