The Caddy Shack Indoor Golf and Fun Review

The Caddy Shack offers a wide selection of food and drink options.

Sometimes finding something to do in Ashland seems impossible. But, two Collegian reporters, Connor Dunwoodie and Callan Pugh, determined to find fun in their senior year, are visiting local spots in Ashland and reviewing them, so you know exactly what to expect if you choose to visit. This week, they took on the Caddy Shack Indoor Golf and Fun.

Connor: Callan and I have a bad tendency to not look up the hours of places before attending them, so we showed up at about 4:05 p.m. to the Caddy Shack realizing it opened at 4 p.m., it was empty. Although we were the only ones in the bar, we had a blast.

I do not want to call the Caddy Shack a bar, because in my opinion a bar implies that the main focus is to drink, this is not true for the Caddy Shack.

Although they do have a nice bar with a huge selection of drinks, that doe not seem to be the main focus of the establishment.

They have giant Jenga, corn hole, golf simulators, arcade games, amazing food, and so much more. The Caddy Shack has never been “a college bar” in my time here, but I would like to see that change. The people are friendly, the drinks are relatively affordable, and the Caddy Shack has more stuff to do than any other restaurant/bar in Ashland. Personally, I will be spending more time there when I go out.

Callan: Let me start by saying that this was my first time visiting the Caddy Shack. We got there right at 4 p.m. when they opened and so we found ourselves walking into an empty room. But the bartender, who looked a little like a young Leonardo DiCaprio, was fast to welcome us. He explained that the bar is usually a bit busier on weekends and during big games.

He also was able to help me find a new beer I really loved. The bar had a lot to offer in the way of craft beer and by the look of the different alcohols behind the bar, had a bunch of mixed drinks available as well. The drink selection was great, although a little bit more pricey than I expected. They also had a brand new Mac & Cheese bites appetizer that Connor and I both really enjoyed.

I wish we had had time to play with the golf simulators and the giant Jenga game while we were there. It’s definitely something I plan to go back to do! I’m also definitely going back to check out their thursday karaoke night.

Service: 4.4 /5

Connor: The man who served us was very friendly. He went above and beyond his job to make sure we were comfortable and having a good time. He let us sample drinks to see what we would like, he gave us honest opinions on the food, and he was just very friendly.

Callan: Because we came in right at opening, it seemed like they were not quite ready for us but the bartender was really chill and happy to talk with us. I really cannot complain much at all.

Cleanliness  4.6/5

Connor: The whole location was super clean. The server/bartender was constantly washing his hands and cleaning the counters. Although the place had just opened, the whole establishment had a very clean feel to it.

Callan: I ate some of Connor’s chips and got some crumbs on the bar, and the bartender worried that he had missed some crumbs from previous visitors and cleaned it up right away. It. Was. So. Clean. I would honestly hire the bartender to come clean my house if he offered.

Bathrooms: 4.9 /5

Connor: The restrooms were a decent size and super clean. There was no writing on the walls and the bathroom actually smelled nice.

Callan: Much like the rest of the place, the bathroom was perfectly clean. This could be because I was the first person to use it, but based on the experience I had, they keep it pretty clean all the time.

Affordability: 3.25/5

Connor: The food prices varied from item to item. I ordered the chip shots for $3. They are custom made chips for the Caddy Shack with salsa and nacho cheese, for $3 they were such a great deal. They did have more pricey food and some of the nicer craft beers were upwards of $6.

Callan: One beer was $4. But really the price isn’t that bad for a drink I actually enjoyed, and they had less expensive options. The appetizer was $5.95 and definitely a little more than I would like to spend on food each day. However, if you split it with someone else, you could save money. And over all, if you are looking to eat out, the prices aren’t much higher than anywhere else would be.

Atmosphere: 4.25 /5

Connor: From what I gathered, the atmosphere is very fun. Even when it was just Callan and I at the Caddy Shack, we were having so much.

The Caddy Shack has so much potential to be one of the most fun places to spend an evening at in Ashland.

Callan: I’m only docking points because it was so empty when we were there. Even without other visitors it was clean and looked nice inside and the games and golf simulators automatically make the Caddy Shack unique in the Ashland bar scene.
