AU tennis falls in first road match

The Ashland University women’s tennis team had their first road matches in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, where they fell 8-1.
Saturday Sept. 17 the Eagle’s traveled to Michigan Tech University to play the Huskies. Starting out the doubles fell 8-1, 8-3 and 8-1.
The freshman Allison Brooks, playing at fifth single had her first collegiate win, being the lone victor. Brooks won her first set 6-3 and second set 7-5.
Brianna Brdicka, another freshman put up a fight, playing in singles but falling short in three sets to a Huskies freshman.
On Sunday Sept. 18 the Eagles then traveled to Lake Superior State University falling 8-1 yet again.
The one victor on Sunday was the freshman Brdicka, who almost won the day before. Brdicka won two out of three sets, with scores of 7-5 and 6-2.
Senior, Meghann Fitzpatrick, took the Laker player to three sets with scores of 6-1, 1-6 and 6-2.
“This season we know we are a young team and are we are focusing on development, toughness, and conditioning,” Head Coach Lexi Bolesky said. “They are a great bunch of girls that are very encouraging and empowering of one another. They support each other and really want to see the team continue to reach improvements and develop positively.”
With that being said, Bolesky says the Eagles look forward to make the appropriate improvements as they return home for their match.
On Oct. 1 the Eagles will face the Findlay Oilers at 10 a.m. The following day, Oct. 2 at 1 p.m. will be their last home match against the Tiffin Dragons.
