While continuing to progress, the Ashland Eagles men’s cross country team placed second and the women placed sixth at the All-Ohio Championships for NCAA Division II in Cedarville on Friday.

“It was a huge meet, so just about every school in Ohio was there,”coach Thomas Scott said. There was about 45 schools on the men’s side and 47 on the women’s side.”

Coming in first for the AU men’s team and improving his time from last week was senior Nick Hall, who placed sixth overall and third in Division II. Coming in behind him and also improving their times from last week were sophomore Steven Kapes and senior Zach Humrichouser.

“Our men averaged 10 seconds faster from two weeks ago,” Scott said. “A total of eight of the guys ran faster than they did two weeks ago.”

The AU men’s team scored 76-points leaving them in second behind Walsh, who scored 44 points.

On the women’s side Emily Schumaker was first for the AU women’s team and behind her were seniors Linda Morales and Jackie Genetin.

“Our women bettered their average time from two weeks ago by 22 seconds,” Scott said. “We had a lot of improvements on our women’s side. Seven of our nine girls ran faster than what they did two weeks ago.”

According to Scott, about half way through the women’s race it began rain, causing the running conditions to be difficult.

“If the course wasn’t so muddy then we probably would have ran faster.”

The Ashland Eagles cross country teams will run again at the Lake Erie Storm Invitational on Oct. 8 at 11a.m.
