Eagles smash Kentucky Wesleyan

The Ashland University football team broke two offensive program records in its 70-14 nonconference win over Kentucky Wesleyan on Saturday at Kentucky Wesleyan.
AU rushed for 521 yards to break the previous record of 447, and they also totaled 737 yards of offense, breaking the prior mark of 721.
The 70 points scored by the Eagles (7-1) is tied for the second most in a contest in program history.
Ashland started its scoring when junior quarterback Travis Tarnowski hit redshirt freshman wide receiver Stanley Jackson Jr. for a 22-yard touchdown.
Tarnowski finished 11 of 17 for 207 yards and three passing touchdowns and had three carries for 91 yards and a TD.
Freshman running back Keishaun Sims then scored from 34 yards out with 1:31 left in the opening quarter to push AU ahead, 14-0.
In the second quarter, Tarnowski ran a career-long 78-yard touchdown run.
Tarnowski also hit sophomore wide receiver Kamaron Green for touchdowns of 33 and 20 yards.
Senior tailback Vance Settlemire added to the second quarter scoring with a 49-yard TD spurt.
In the second half, AU scored four more touchdowns — a Sims 54-yard rush, 17 and 21 yard runs by redshirt freshman Luke Ogi and sophomore running back Andrew Vaughn added a 1-yard run.
Top rushers for the Eagles were Sims (six for 133), Settlemire (10 for 130), Vaughn (eight for 95) and Ogi (eight for 70).
AU was led on defense by senior defensive end Zach Leftenant (7 total tackles, 3 TFL) and senior stud Adam Wallace (2 sacks).
Ashland gets back into Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play next Saturday at 1 p.m. when they travel to Michigan Tech (2-5, 2-5 GLIAC).
