AU soccer sees men fall 2-1 and women win 2-0
The Eagles have opposite results

Ashland University soccer teams had opposite results on Thursday, Oct. 6. The men’s soccer team fell 2-1 at home to the Cedarville Yellowjackets, while the women’s team defeated the Malone Pioneers on the road by a score of 2-0.
The men’s team struggled and fell early in the first half.
In the 13th minute of the contest, a cross from midfielder Andy Volk found the foot of forward Mauricio Ochoa Vazquez who drilled the ball into the top left corner of the goal to secure a 1-0 lead.
Just 11 minutes later the Yellowjackets smashed in another one as Ochoa Vazquez secured his second goal of the contest to take a 2-0 lead.
As tensions continued to flare, the Eagles could not find themselves an answering goal until the 89th minute. With 14 seconds remaining in the game a corner strike from midfielder Sam Jordan found the head of forward Jake Grove to lighten the blow.
Even with the loss the Eagles fought to the very end while showcasing tremendous heart and drive.
Ultimately the Eagles fell 2-1, with their record moving to 7-4-1 and 6-3 in conference play.
Taking a look at the women’s team secured another stifling 2-0 victory over the Pioneers.
The first half saw a multitude of opportunities for the Eagles with nine shots being recorded, but the first goal of the contest would be scored in the 58th minute off of a penalty kick from midfielder Georgia Nagucki.
Later in the contest in the 75th minute, the Eagles would go up two scores after midfielder Dani Hicks found forward McKinley Mendenhall to secure her fourth goal of the season.
Goalkeeper Bri Rogers secured her fourth consecutive clean sheet, her sixth of the season.
The Eagles would win 2-0 over the Pioneers to improve to 9-3 on the season and 7-1 in conference play. Their win streak now improves to four in a row.
The men’s team returns to play on Oct. 13 as they take on the Malone Pioneers with kickoff set for 3:30 p.m. The women’s team takes on the Lake Erie Storm Sunday, Oct. 9 with kickoff set for 1 p.m.
