Volleyball sweeps weekend at home

The Ashland University women’s volleyball team defeated Northwood on Friday night to improve to 5-5 in the GLIAC.
The Eagles beat the Timberwolves 3-1 (25-15, 25-19, 26-28,25-13) and earned a 4-0 record at home.
In the first set of the game the Eagles took a 15-12 lead before extending their lead to 25-15 to take the first set.
The second set brought more of a battle from the Timberwolves by leading them by two points before taking the set.
The third set brought a tough fight as the Timberwolves beat the Eagles by two points. In the fourth set, the Eagles had a five point lead to take the win.
Senior Alli Cudworth had 12 kills and nine service aces. Senior outside hitter Casey Clark also added 17 digs and 10 kills.
The team ended with a .287 hitting percentage against the Timberwolves’ .134 percent.
The Eagles faced another GLIAC team Saturday playing against the Hillsdale Chargers and improving to 6-5 in the GLIAC.
The back and forth game brought a 3-1 win for the Eagles (24-26, 25-23, 25-23, 29-27).
The first set brought a tough fight for the Eagles and the Chargers with Hillsdale taking the set, 26-24.
In the second set the Eagles came back after a back and forth lead. The Eagles won 25-23.
The third set brought another tough match but with the help of the Cudworth sisters. The Chargers were up 23-22 before the Eagles came from behind with the momentum shift win.
The fourth set brought another Eagle victory as freshman Shelby Woycik helped the Eagles get off to a strong start by scoring the first two points. After a timeout called by Coach Cass Dixon, the Eagles came from behind to tie the score at 25 before taking the set 29-27.
With a recent change in lineup Dixon said that she was proud of the way the team played.
“They were fighting the entire time and they never gave up,” Dixon said. “When Hillsdale got a lead we didn’t just throw up our hands and be done, they kept at it.”
The Eagles ended the game with a .250 hitting percentage. The Eagles will be in action on the road next Friday against the Walsh Cavaliers.
