Ashland University’s library will be renamed due to a grant made by the Archer Family. There will be a ceremony introducing the University Library’s new name on Thursday.

University Library was the original name of the tallest building  in Ashland County standing at 130 feet tall. The building was started in the 1970s and was finished on Jan. 2,1972. It will be renamed May 13, 2021 for the first time in 49 years. Approximate building expenses ranged $2-2.5 million at its start.

The name is not the only change to the library that was presented this week. During finals week on AU’s campus, the library will have new hours for people to study and can be provided with a stress relief guide that you can do to relax your mind. The Stress Relief Resources Guide is filled with puzzles, coloring arts, a yoga tutorial and journaling to distract student’s mind from finals.

Diane Schrecker, the Ashland University Curriculum Librarian, posted on Ashland University’s Library News website that the hours will be 8 a.m. to 12 a.m., Monday through Wednesday and Thursday and Friday, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The library will be closed  Saturday, May 8 and Sunday, May 9.

For more information about the library getting renamed by the Archer Family, the librarians recommended seeing Aaron Ross. Ross is a Director located in the Office of the President.
