The No. 21-ranked Ashland University football team routed Walsh University 56-0 in a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference game on Senior Day at Jack Miller Stadium/Martinelli Field on Saturday afternoon.

AU’S defense recorded its second shutout of the season and allowed the fewest total yards of offense (86) in a home game since the stadium opened in 2009. This also marks the fifth time this season the defense has allowed single-digit points.

Junior tight end Adam Shaheen tied the NCAA Division II record for most single-season touchdown catches by a tight end with 15 after catching two second-quarter TDs.

Shaheen has 25 career TD grabs, which is three short of Joe Horn’s program record of 28.

Senior running back Vance Settlemire now has 44 career TDs — one short of Anthony Taylor’s program record of 45 — after scoring on TD runs of two, 23 and eight yards.

He also became the seventh player in AU history to run for over 3,000 yards in a career (3,032) after rushing for 126 yards on Saturday.

Junior quarterback Travis Tarnowski finished 11 of 15 for 117 yards, to go along with three touchdowns and one interception. He has 76 passing TDs for his career, which is three short of Billy Cundiff’s program record.

AU (8-2, 6-2 GLIAC) ran for 402 yards and totaled 529 yards of offense against Walsh (1-9, 0-9 GLIAC).

Senior safety Terrell Hudson led the Eagles on defense with six total tackles (2 for loss), while sophomore tailback Andrew Vaughn added 126 rushing yards.

Ashland travels to Ohio Dominican next Saturday for a noon start to end its 2016 regular season.
