The Ashland University wrestling team has had continued individual success as the 2022-2023 season has begun.

In their most recent duel meet against the No. 6 nationally ranked Pitt-Johnstown, the Eagles struggled, losing the meet 25-9. Although they lost, a bright spot on the team was 141-pound junior Gavin Weaver.

Weaver pulled off a 7-0 win over the No. 9 nationally ranked grappler Caleb Morris in the 141 weight class. He recorded a first-period takedown, a near-fall, and a riding time point to secure the upset win over Morris.

With the upset, he was awarded with the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Play of the Week award and secured his 10th win of the season.

The Eagles will next travel to Indianapolis, Ind. to take on a handful of teams at the Midwest Classic on Dec. 17 and 18.
