For the first time, this fall season Ashland University has received 5 players of the week awards on Oct. 17, from the Great Midwest Athletic Conference. This week’s winners come from the football, volleyball and swimming and diving teams.

Starting off at Jack Miller Stadium, defensive end Jeffery Barnett took home defensive player of the week for the conference. Barnett, this past weekend in a 14-7 win over the Ohio Dominican Panthers posting a sack and nine total tackles along with two tackles for loss.

With the help of Barnett this season, the Eagle defense is now ranked number one in the nation so far this year through seven weeks of play.

Moving over to Kates Gymnasium for the third time this season the volleyball team has taken home two awards in one week. The offensive player of the week for the south division is Zoey Peck.

The Eagles played three games this past weekend in the Midwest Region Crossover. Peck finished with 127 assists, four kills, one service ace, and 25 digs.

On the defensive side of things, Anna Krikke broke the program’s single-game record of block assists, recording 11 against the Quincy Panthers. For the whole crossover tournament, she had 21 total blocks, 26 kills, one assist and two digs. 

On the swimming teams, senior Abby Locke won women’s athlete of the week, having earned wins on Saturday at the Oberlin tri-meet in the 200 individual medley, 100 breaststroke and 200 breaststroke.

As for the men’s side of things, senior Amar Sapcanin won the men’s 200 breaststroke and men’s 100 breaststroke individually and won as a part of the men’s 200 and 400 medley relay teams.
