One of the candidates involved in the race for Ward 3 of the Ashland City Council is Emily Huestis.

Huestis, a registered Democrat, is currently involved at Ashland University as the Executive Director of the Ashland Center for Nonviolence.

The 41-year-old Ashland resident has no previous political experience, but she has been building supporters by meeting voters in the third ward of the city council in the evenings while taking office hours during the day.

She’s been gathering supporters from certain organizations on Ashland’s main campus, including the College Democrats group.

In the general absentee election, Huestis trails her opponent Dennis Miller 233 votes to 170, or about a 58% to 42% margin. All four precincts involved in the election represented a total of 403 voters.

The winner will represent the Ashland city precincts 8, 9, 10, and 11.
